On Sunday, the Turkish Ministry of Defense said in a statement that it has provided training to members of the Libyan Navy in “underwater defence.”

The statement added that it continues to provide training to the Libyan military “with the aim of supporting brotherly Libya, which has deeply rooted relations with us based on 500 years of common history.”

The Turkish military personnel have provided the “demolition phase” of the underwater defence training, the statement noted.

In December 2019, Turkey signed two MoUs on defence and gas drilling in the Mediterranean with the outgoing Government of National Accord (GNA). Ankara has provided weapons, military training, and foreign mercenaries to the GNA. Reports indicated that Turkey have also transferred more than 18,000 mercenaries from Syria to western Libya.
