Libya’s Labour Minister, Ali Al-Abed met with his Egyptian counterpart, Mohamed Saafan in Cairo, to discuss the return of Egyptian workers to aid in the reconstruction of Libya.
Al-Abed is set to discuss coordination regarding the memorandum of understanding between Egypt and Libya. This was signed during the meeting of the two prime ministers in Tripoli last April.
According to a statement issued by the Egyptian Ministry of Manpower, Saafan affirmed his keenness to cooperate with the Libyan government, and organize periodic meetings to determine the work strategy and outline the beginning of the return of Egyptian workers to Libya.
“The ministry is currently taking measures for the return of the labour representation office in Libya, in order to activate joint work plans, and begin the facilitation of the return of Egyptian workers,” he said.
Saafan pointed out that the return of direct flights between the two countries “will be the main factor in facilitating the official return of Egyptian workers to Libya, while ensuring full safety for workers in various sectors and their necessary protection.”
Al-Abed praised the Egyptian government’s full cooperation with Libya, pointing to the “security progress, which allows for foreign workers to return.” He announced that a committee will be formed to study the situation in Libyan airports, and submit a final report to the government at the earliest date.
