US Deputy Secretary of State, Wendy Sherman , confirmed the importance of the Libyan file for the United States (US) and Tunisia. She added that the US and Tunisian Foreign Ministers had recently talked in this regard, and stressed the quest for the success of the Libyan elections, which will be held on December 24th of this year.

They are also keen on the necessity of implementing United Nations Security Council resolutions calling for a cease-fire, as well as resolving military issues completely, and deporting mercenaries and foreign fighters from Libya to ensure the integrity of the elections and the success of this entitlement, according to Sherman.

Sherman was responding to a question in a virtual press conference, which was held on Friday evening, at the headquarters of the US Embassy in Tunis, with representatives of a number of local media, regarding the role that Tunisia could play in Libya during the next stage.

The US Deputy Secretary of State stressed that Washington will work to ensure the development of significant bilateral relations between Tunisia and Libya, especially in the trade and development fields.

Before that, Tunisian Prime Minister, Hisham Al-Mashishi had a virtual conversation with the US Deputy Secretary of State about ways to strengthen bilateral relations in all fields. They discussed building integrated development relations and raising them to the level of strategic and fruitful partnership in the interest of the two friendly countries.
