On Friday, Acting United States (US) Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, Joey Hood, said that the US is confident that the Libyan elections will be held on scheduled date, next December, in accordance with the roadmap and Security Council resolution.

In an interview with Sky News Arabia, Hood indicated that it is necessary to hold elections “to meet the demands of the Libyans in an elected government that represents the whole population, and is able to unite the army and protect all borders.

“Officials in the US met at the Berlin Conference and at the United Nations (UN) with several parties to ensure that the elections are held on time,” Hood said.

“The discussions for the exit of foreign forces from Libya are still ongoing, and everyone realizes that the Libyan people want to restore the sovereignty of their country,” he added.

He called for the exit of all mercenaries or proxy fighters – regardless of the name.

“The exit of foreign forces will enable the Libyans to determine their fate, and the international community to help them rebuild their country,” he concluded.
