On Sunday, Libya’s Ambassador to the European Union (EU), Hafez Kaddour, announced his resignation, in opposition to the policies and practices of the Government of National Unity (GNU) and its actions in the internal and external fields.
In a statement posted on his Twitter account, Kaddour said that he is submitting his resignation to the President of the Presidential Council, Mohamed Al-Mnifi. He explained that this resignation comes as a “clear and public objection to the policies and practices of the interim government and its actions in the internal and external fields.”
Kaddour added that there is an apparent confusion in the management of public affairs and the general administration of the state. He pointed out that one of the reasons for his resignation is the government’s failure of achieving the minimum level of national stability and livelihood and the provision of services.
Kaddour accused the government of preventing the holding of elections, thwarting this option and national orientation. He pointed to the failure of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF) to agree on the constitutional basis regulating elections.
It is noteworthy that Kaddour officially began his duties in February 2019, when he presented his credentials to European Council President, Donald Tusk, at the EU headquarters in the Belgian capital, Brussels, as an ambassador-designate by the former Presidential Council.
