Libyan Parliament Speaker Accuses High Council of State of Hindering Presidential Elections

The Libyan Parliament Speaker, Ageela Saleh, accused the High Council of State (HCS) led by Khaled Al-Mishri of hindering the upcoming presidential elections, describing the Council as “the enemy.

During an interview with Al-Ghad satellite channel, Saleh said the Presidential Election Law is ready, and has been referred to the House Legislative Committee and will be passed during the upcoming sessions.

“The House of Representatives (HoR) is the legislative authority competent to issue laws,” Saleh said, stressing that there are no legislative obstacles to holding the elections, and that the adopted law did not exclude anyone.

Notably, last week Parliament announced that the government was summoned for an interrogation session on August 30th at Parliament’s headquarters in Tobruk.

Parliament Speaker, Ageela Saleh said that the House will withdraw confidence from the interim Government of National Unity (GNU) headed by Abdelhamid Al-Dbaiba if it does not attend the interrogation session next Monday.

“The government has failed to unify institutions, provide citizens with food, medicine, and electricity requirements, national reconciliation, and prepare for elections,” Saleh explained.
