The British government confirmed its support for the Government of National Accord (GNA) and ceasefire efforts in a call between James Cleverly, the UK’s Minister of State for the Middle East and North Africa, and Mohamed Siala, the Foreign Minister of the GNA.

Cleverly stressed during the call that his country “stands with the GNA, as it is the legitimate government of Libya and the UK supports ceasefire efforts.”

The two ministers discussed the latest developments on the ground and how to implement “a sustainable ceasefire to bring an end to the human and economic suffering of Libyans.”

Cleverly also reiterated his country’s support in confronting the COVID-19 pandemic, calling on the World Health Organization to take into account the situation in Libya.
