MSF: “Libya is not a Safe Place for Refugees, Asylum Seekers and Migrants”

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has claimed that “Libya is not a safe place for refugees, asylum seekers and migrants”, calling on EU governments to stop their funding and support to the Libyan Coast Guard.

“Nearly 400 men, women & children were forcibly returned to war-torn Libya over the past week, half of them are now unaccounted for”, the international organization tweeted on Monday.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has stated that more than 800 migrants have recently attempted to cross into Europe. Approximately 400 were intercepted and sent to detention centers in Libya.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) confirmed that five migrants had drowned off the coast of Libya, with another 51 being returned to Tripoli and placed in detention centers.
