On Tuesday, the Libyan Parliament formed a constitutional committee, in consultation with the High Council of State (HCS). It added that the committee’s members must be experts in order to submit a proposal to amend the constitutional declaration.
The Parliament will then vote on the adoption of the proposal as a draft constitution, and then refer it to the High National Elections Commission (HNEC) for a referendum.
The session was devoted to discussing the heads of the supervisory bodies and their deputies. In addition to calling on the Parliament’s Finance Committee to refer the investment portfolios law, as soon as possible.
The House also affirmed that it would request the UN Secretary-General to stop foreign interference in Libyan affairs.
The session was chaired by the Parliament Speaker, Ageela Saleh and attended by Deputy Speaker, Ahmed Houma. They discussed the findings of the Roadmap committee.
On Monday, Saleh stated that MP’s appointed to Libyan Embassies abroad, public companies, or those who have boycotted Parliamentary sessions would have their membership revoked.
Saleh added that a list of names will be prepared, and presented on Tuesday, according to his speech during Monday’s session.
The Speaker also announced that candidates for the position of Prime Minister will submit their candidacies on Monday. A new PM to replace Abdel-Hamid Dbaiba will be selected on 8 February.
