Libya’s national army commander, Khalifa Haftar, has urged Libyans to abandon the Skheirat agreement and to overthrow the Government of National Accord’s (GNA) Presidential Council. In 2015, rival Libyan parties signed the Skheirat agreement in Morocco.
In a televised speech, Haftar added that the council has threatened the dignity of the people, abandoned the sovereignty of the state, and destroyed its economy by employing oil revenues to support militias and bring in fighters from abroad.
Haftar added that the Libyan National Army (LNA) will wage a counter-attack to recapture the two cities that were seized by the GNA earlier this month.“Sarraj’s joy will not last,” vowed Haftar.
Furthermore, he called on the Libyans to task the LNA with the management of the country, urging them to pick a side that is qualified to lead Libya. The LNA commander pledged that his forces will protect Libyans.
“The LNA has defeated terrorism in Benghazi, Derna, the oil crescent region and central and southern Libya, and it will continue its fight in Tripoli,” he declared.
