On Sunday, the National Oil Corporation in Tripoli decided to extend the state of emergency in the country’s oil fields and ports over fears of the coronavirus outbreak.

In a statement, the Tripoli-based Corporation stated that all its affiliated companies have to continue reducing the number of workers in the oil fields and main headquarters until further notice.

Notably, the oil corporation has previously declared a state of emergency, announcing a number of precautionary measures, including reducing the workers’ numbers in companies and decreasing the public budgets in order to curb the spread of the deadly virus inside the Libyan territory.

Libya’s National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) announced on Saturday the recovery of four coronavirus cases, adding that the total number of confirmed cases in the country reached 63, with 41 active cases under medical observation.

One coronavirus-related death has been reported on Thursday, taking the death toll in the North African country to 5.

“Up to 22 cases have recovered so far in the country,” it added.
