Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to the United Nations, Gennady Kuzmin, stressed that peace can only be guaranteed in Libya through dialogue between the warring parties.

Kuzmin stated that Moscow called on the Secretary General to appoint a new special envoy to Libya as soon as possible, after the resignation of former SRSG Ghassan Salame.

“We would like to repeat that no decision should be taken outside the country,” the Russian diplomat said.

“At the same time, it is impossible to overestimate the importance of the UN’s role in resolving the situation in the country.”

“We salute Ghassan Salame and call on the Secretary General to appoint his special envoy as soon as possible for the Libyan operation,” Kuzmin added.
