Libyan Army Arrests Father for Murdering His Daughters

On Saturday, the Tariq bin Ziyad Brigade of the Libyan National Army (LNA) announced the arrest of a man who killed his two daughters, Bushra and Yasmeen, during the first day of Eid Al-Adha.

The Brigade said that, in cooperation with security services, LNA forces managed to arrest the father and his son in the city of Benghazi.

The defendants were referred to the competent authorities to complete all legal procedures against them, and put them on trial.
The Brigade published footage of the two, confessing to their crime. The father said that he had agreed with his son Bilal to shoot dead his two sisters, due to their harsh living conditions.

The Libyan Ministry of State for Women’s Affairs has condemned the murders. It called on the competent authorities to “take all necessary legal measures to stop such violent practices, which threaten the security and safety of female citizens, and explicitly violate their basic rights to live in a safe country.”

During the days of Eid Al-Adha, at least 6 women and girls, were killed amid a complete absence of security, the spread of chaos, and the lack of the rule of law. These crimes show the high rate of societal violence present, especially against Libyan women.
