Libya’s Ministry of Planning held a meeting with the representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Libya, Marc-André Franche at the Corinthia Hotel in Tripoli. The two parties discussed the implementation of the new Country Programme Project for Libya 2023-2025.
According to the Ministry, the meeting was based on upcoming priorities, including raising institutional capacities at the national and local levels. This is to enable the government to “provide the best services, whether basic or social, and to support stability and peace.”
UNDP also indicated that more than “25 partners and ministries, with their evaluations and opinions, participated in this program to ensure its successful implementation.” The program is due to be presented and approved by the UNDP Executive Board in New York in September.
According to the statement, “the new country program aims to focus its cooperation in about 30 municipalities across the country. In addition to pooling resources from international and national sources and accompanying public institutions to help them implement public policies.”
The statement added that “while structural development reforms are a challenge without a political agreement and national elections, UNDP will focus on areas where there is consensus.”
In turn, Franche emphasised the “long-term presence of UNDP in Libya, even in the midst of the crisis.” He noted that “effective development progress required a political agreement among Libyans, as well as a strong, legitimate, elected government.”
