On Thursday, Italian Foreign Minister Luigi di Maio discussed the situation in Libya in a phone call with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

During the call, the two renewed their concerns over the increasing hostilities between the warring parties in Libya. They stressed the need for an immediate humanitarian truce and to bring an end to foreign interference in the country.

The two also discussed the repercussions of the global COVID-19 pandemic and the need to accelerate economic recovery efforts.

On Wednesday, US President Donald Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron discussed the “worsening foreign interference” in Libya and “agreed on the need for urgent deescalation,” the White House said.
