On Sunday, the Libyan National Army (LNA) arrested Syrian commander Abu Bakr Al-Buwaidani in southern Tripoli, according to LNA spokesman Ahmed Al-Mismari.

The ISIS affiliated Syrian Al-Buwaidani arrived to Libya a few weeks ago and was arrested in Al-Yarmouk camp whilst fighting for the Government of National Accord (GNA).

Posts taken from Al-Buwaidani’s social media profiles show the Syrian fighter supporting IS in Baghdad:

“Allah is the Greatest and Glory is to Allah. The Islamic State is on the outskirts of Baghdad. Pray for the Lions of Islam”

“With Allah’s Permission, the Islamic Caliphate will be greater to include all world countries”

According to the SOHR, the number of Syrian fighters currently in Libya is believed to be around 10,000, with a further 3,400 still undergoing training in Turkey. The Observatory says that among the total number of foreign fighters there are about 200 child soldiers between the ages of 16 and 18.
