HOR President and Russian Foreign Minister Stress Need For Peaceful Solution in Libya

On Tuesday, President of the Libyan House of Representatives (HoR) Ageela Saleh held a telephone call with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

The two discussed latest developments in Libya and reviewed possible solutions to bring an end to the conflict. According to a statement issued by the Russian Foreign Ministry, Lavrov and Saleh stated that all military solutions were futile and stressed the need to announce an immediate ceasefire and resume political talks that would unite the opposing government authorities.

The two exchanged views on a number of international efforts to reach a peaceful settlement in Libya, including the resolutions of the Berlin Conference supported by the United Nations.

The Berlin Conference that was held on January 19, 2020 called for a permanent ceasefire in Libya. International participants pledged to refrain from interfering in Libya’s internal affairs, while promising to facilitate
