US Ambassador To Libya Demands End To Foreign Intervention

The US Ambassador to Libya, Richard Norland, stressed the need for an end to the conflict in Libya.

He stated that continuous foreign intervention only served to intensify the situation.

Ambassador Norland added that ending the war would help counter the spread of COVID-19 in the country and reduce the suffering of the Libyan people.

The Ambassador said that the situation in Libya has developed significantly in recent weeks.

He noted that the Government of National Accord (GNA) has retaken control of several regions thanks to Turkish military support.

He expressed the US’s concern regarding the escalation of fighting in the country, especially after reports that Russia delivered military aircraft to the Libyan National Army (LNA). This is in addition to the continued flow of Turkish military equipment to the GNA.

The government of the United States called on the parties to the conflict to return to the UN led 5+5 military talks in Geneva.

This agreement would be the ideal opportunity to establish a permanent ceasefire, he added.

Norland also commented on the Turkish influence in the conflict, saying “It is time for all mercenaries and all foreign forces to end the escalation and leave Libya.”
