The Head of the Libyan Hajj mission, Fathi Bourziza, stated that 5,212 pilgrims have arrived in Mecca up until Friday, according to recorded footage broadcasted by the General Authority of Hajj Affairs.
Bourziza mentioned that the mission’s task is to receive Libyan pilgrims upon their entry into the arrival hall and accompany them while waiting for buses that transport them to Mecca through the largest transportation companies.
Earlier on Saturday, the Authority published photos of the arrival of two flights from the Eastern Region, Al-Jabal Al-Akhdar, coming from Tobruk Airport.
The first flights of Libyan pilgrims began two Fridays ago from Mitiga International Airport via African Airlines, heading to King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah. The flights continue from various locations to facilitate travel procedures for Libyan pilgrims and ensure their safety.
Both Libyan and African airlines are responsible for transporting pilgrims to the holy land from six designated airports approved by the interim government’s Prime Minister, aiming to alleviate the burden on citizens. These airports include Mitiga, Misrata, Benina, Al-Abrak, Tobruk, and Sabha, to transport a total of 7,800 Libyan pilgrims this year.
Notably, officials have reported that Saudi Arabia is currently experiencing a remarkable increase in the number of pilgrims, surpassing one million, who have congregated from various parts of the world to embark on the sacred pilgrimage of Hajj. This annual religious journey holds great significance in Islam and attracts hundreds of thousands of worshipers to the Grand Mosque in Makkah.
The focal point of the pilgrimage is the circumambulation of the Kaaba, which holds the highest reverence in Islam. Pilgrims, dressed uniformly in white attire, come together in unity to perform the Tawaf, a ritual of circling the Kaaba seven times as a symbolic act of devotion and surrender to God.
To ensure a seamless and fulfilling Hajj experience, the General Presidency of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque has introduced a comprehensive range of initiatives for the 2023 Hajj season. These initiatives consist of 17 projects designed to enhance the comfort, safety, and spiritual ambiance for the pilgrims.
