On Monday, The Italian Foreign Ministry confirmed its support for any initiative that would reach a political solution to the Libyan crisis. It urged all parties to resume the 5 + 5 Joint Military Talks in Geneva.

In a statement, the Italian Foreign Ministry declared it supported the initiative launched by Egyptian President, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, to resolve the crisis.

“Italy has always been supportive of any initiative that can be accepted by all the concerned parties. This should be within the framework of the Berlin Conference, and in favor of a political solution to the Libyan crisis” the statement added.

Italy hopes that all parties involved in the conflict would participate in the resumption of the 5+5 negotiations, to draft a temporary ceasefire under the auspices of the United Nations.
