A Libyan Ministry of Health official announced on Monday that they had received the necessary approval to welcome 2,000 medical professionals and assistants from Bangladesh.
Abdel-Atti Abdel-Salam, the Head of the Committee for Distributing Foreign Medical and Assistant Medical Professionals at the Ministry of Health, stated that the Ministry of Labour has approved the doctors and nurses of varying specialities.
Abdel-Salam confirmed that the first batch of 21 medical and assistant medical professionals, has already arrived in Libya, and have been distributed to hospitals in the south of the country.
He added that a second batch of 120 doctors and nurses will arrive in Libya within two weeks.
The foreign professionals were selected after undergoing examinations, and will be contracted for one year, with the possibility of renewal.
The step sheds light on the need to address the shortage of medical workers, and improve the quality of healthcare in the country.
Notably, Libyan Minister of Labor, Ali Al-Abed met with the Director of the Transportation Employment Office, Adel Al-Sharidi. They discussed the measures taken by airlines operating in Libya, to regulate the entry of workers.
He stressed that the airlines “should only allow entry for workers who have obtained a work permit from the Libyan Labour Ministry.”
Al-Abed affirmed the need for “full coordination with security agencies, passport control, border management, and civil aviation authorities.”
He emphasised the ministry’s intention to launch an electronic work permit model in the near future.
Notably, Al-Abed received the Pakistani Ambassador in Tripoli, Rashid Javid, and discussed recruiting Pakistani skilled workers for the Libyan labour market.
The Ministry said in a statement that the two sides discussed a number of topics and issues of common interest. Especially in the fields of electronic and electrical professions, communications engineering, and agricultural professions
Al-Abed affirmed the depth of the relationship between the two countries. In turn, the Pakistani Ambassador praised the efforts of the Ministry of Labour in developing the labour market and supporting workers.
