The Libyan Presidential Council Deputy, Mousa Al-Koni, engaged in discussions with African Union (AU) Commission President, Moussa Faki, during a meeting on the sidelines of the AU Group of Ten Summit in Equatorial Guinea.
The talks encompassed Libya’s political situation, focusing on elections, stability, and the reconciliation project.
The meeting, part of the AU Group of Ten Summit, aimed at reforming the United Nations (UN) Security Council, allowed Al-Koni to emphasise the success of the reconciliation initiative led by the Presidential Council.
Faki expressed the AU Commission’s support for Libya’s reconciliation efforts, recognising Al-Koni’s commitment to the political process and consistent discussions on the Libyan dossier in various African summits.
Al-Koni, leading the Libyan delegation at the fifth summit of the AU Group of Ten, highlighted the importance of African support for Libya’s political trajectory and ongoing engagement in diplomatic forums.
Last month, the Speaker of the Libyan Parliament, Ageela Saleh, affirmed the pivotal role that the AU should play in resolving the ongoing crisis.
This statement came during a meeting with Libya’s Minister of African Affairs, Issa Abdul-Majeed, at the Parliament’s headquarters.
The Libyan Parliament-designated government stated that the discussion between Saleh and Abdul Majeed revolved around ways to resolve the crisis, and the role of African countries and the AU in supporting and establishing stability.
The meeting particularly focused on the national reconciliation program, overseen by the AU. Saleh underscored the necessity for the AU to play a constructive role in resolving the Libyan crisis.
The government’s statement mentioned that Abdul Majeed presented an outline of his program, developed in line with Prime Minister, Osama Hammad.
According to the statement, the program calls for enhancing international engagement, and strengthening mutual relations with friendly nations.
