The Libyan Pavilion was officially opened at the Dubai International Exhibition, held on the sidelines of the COP28 Climate Conference, by Taher El-Baour, who is overseeing the operations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Libyan Ambassador to the UAE was also present at the event.
The Libyan government is expected to announce, as part of its participation in the global climate summit, a comprehensive climate policy roadmap for Libya. This includes a national strategy for transitioning to renewable energy sources. A key highlight is the anticipated announcement of the National Oil Corporation’s (NOC) initiative aimed at achieving zero emissions.
Libya’s participation underscores its commitment to fulfilling international obligations in supporting global efforts to combat climate change. This involvement also aims to expand the scope of clean energy initiatives worldwide.
Mohamed Al-Mnifi, Head of the Libyan Presidential Council, participated in the G77 and China Summit, held in Dubai. The summit commenced with the presence of numerous heads of state, governments, and international organizations.
The involvement of Al-Mnifi highlights Libya’s active engagement in global discussions, and its role within the G77 and China group, which collectively focuses on promoting economic cooperation, and development among developing countries.
This summit provides a platform for these nations to collaborate and address pressing global issues, reinforcing their collective voice in the international arena.
Libya has been in chaos since a NATO-backed uprising toppled longtime leader Muammar Gaddafi in 2011. The county has for years been split between rival administrations, each backed by rogue militias and foreign governments.
The current stalemate grew out of the failure to hold elections in December 2021, and the refusal of Prime Minister Abdel-Hamid Dbaiba, who is leading the transitional government, to step down.
