Libya’s Ministry of Labour has signed a memorandum of understanding with the British training and education institution, Pearson. The agreement aims to enhance cooperation in training and development.
During the signing ceremony, Libyan officials and representatives from the British government discussed collaboration to identify needs for administrative staff development, institutional restructuring, and skill enhancement.
Ali Al-Abed, the Minister of Labor, emphasised the partnership in training, education, and vocational rehabilitation, praising Pearson’s role and cooperation with the Ministry.
The meeting included a detailed presentation by Pearson officials on the institution’s history, and its contributions in language, testing, and vocational training.
Ali Al-Magouri, the Deputy Minister of Labor for Employment Affairs, and Fathi Al-Habashi, the Director-General of the Quality Assurance Center, attended the signing ceremony, along with Khaled Ajwaida, Acting Charge d’Affaires in London, Ivon Vovargh, the UK Prime Minister’s Envoy to Libya, Michael Howells, Pearson’s CEO, and Peter Millett, Chairman of the British-Libyan Business Council.
The collaboration focuses on addressing the needs of workforce development, and institutional restructuring in Libya, with an emphasis on skills enhancement.
The partnership is expected to contribute to the advancement of vocational training and education in the country. This agreement aligns with Libya’s efforts to strengthen ties with international partners for mutual benefits and progress in various sectors.
Earlier this week, Al-Abed stressed the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring a safe working environment for both national, and foreign workers.
This came during a meeting with the Gambian Minister of Transport, Labour, and Infrastructure, Ibrahima Silla, on the sidelines of the Sahel and Sahara Countries Labour Ministers Conference.
Al-Abed highlighted the launch of the digital migrant platform, to register foreign labour data. He reaffirmed the commitment to cooperation between the two countries.
In turn, Silla expressed his keenness to strengthen fruitful cooperation with Libya, commending the role of the Ministry of Labor in hosting the conference.
Both ministers emphasised the depth of the friendship between the two nations, and their commitment to enhancing bilateral relations, especially in the areas of labour and rehabilitation.
