The Libyan Minister of Labour, Ali Al-Abed met with the Italian Ambassador to Libya, Gianluca Alberini, at the ministry’s headquarters in Tripoli.

During the meeting, they discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation, and utilize Italian expertise in vocational training to boost the skills of the workforce.

The Italian Ambassador expressed his keen interest in the activities of the Ministry of Labor. He commended its efforts in organizing the conference of labour ministers of the Sahel and Sahara Community, recently held in Tripoli.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides expressed their readiness to strengthen partnerships in the fields of investment and labour, within joint programs between the two countries.

Last week, Libya’s Ministry of Labour has signed a memorandum of understanding with the British training and education institution, Pearson. The agreement aims to enhance cooperation in training and development.

During the signing ceremony, Libyan officials and representatives from the British government discussed collaboration to identify needs for administrative staff development, institutional restructuring, and skill enhancement.

Al-Abed emphasised the partnership in training, education, and vocational rehabilitation, praising Pearson’s role and cooperation with the Ministry.

The meeting included a detailed presentation by Pearson officials on the institution’s history, and its contributions in language, testing, and vocational training.

Ali Al-Magouri, the Deputy Minister of Labor for Employment Affairs, and Fathi Al-Habashi, the Director-General of the Quality Assurance Center, attended the signing ceremony, along with Khaled Ajwaida, Acting Charge d’Affaires in London, Ivon Vovargh, the UK Prime Minister’s Envoy to Libya, Michael Howells, Pearson’s CEO, and Peter Millett, Chairman of the British-Libyan Business Council.

The collaboration focuses on addressing the needs of workforce development, and institutional restructuring in Libya, with an emphasis on skills enhancement.

The partnership is expected to contribute to the advancement of vocational training and education in the country. This agreement aligns with Libya’s efforts to strengthen ties with international partners for mutual benefits and progress in various sectors.
