On Sunday, Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Al-Safadi confirmed Jordan’s full support
for Egypt in the face of threats to its security and stability.
He stressed that Egypt’s national security is an integral part of the security and stability of the entire Arab region.
In a phone call with Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, Al-Safadi stressed that Jordan and Egypt would continue consultations and coordination.
He praised the strategic relation between King Abdullah II and President Abdel-Fatah El-Sisi.
The two Ministers also discussed the latest developments regarding the Libyan crisis and the efforts being made to find a political solution between the warring parties.
The top diplomats called for concerted efforts to bring an end to the war through political dialogue.
This would need the consent of the warring parties as soon as possible in a way that guarantees Libya’s security, stability, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, in accordance with the Berlin Conference and the Cairo Declaration.
Al-Safadi stressed the need to reach a ceasefire and stop all foreign interference that aims to turn Libya into a battlefield for international and regional conflicts.
President El-Sisi stressed Egypt’s readiness to provide support to the Libyan people, saying that “we are always ready to provide support for the sake of Libya’s stability”.
El-Sisi reiterated that Egypt “has no interests” in Libya except for its security and stability,
adding that the “cities of Sirte and Al-Jufra are red lines. Only the people of Libya will defend their country, and Egypt is ready to help and support them.”
Addressing the Libyan tribal leaders, President El-Sisi said that “We have neither invaded other countries, nor assaulted states’ sovereignty. We respect Libya, so we have not interfered in your affairs… However, the situation is now different as Arab, Egyptian, and
Libyan national security is unstable.”
The General Secretariat of the Arab League recently received a request from Egypt to hold an emergency meeting to discuss the latest developments in Libya.
