The Interior Minister of the Libyan Parliament-designated government, Major General Essam Abu Zreibah reviewed issues related to the Imsaad border crossing. This included proposed measures to establish control, and address the challenges of illegal immigration through this crossing.

According to a statement on Tuesday, these discussions took place during a meeting held at the ministry’s headquarters in Benghazi, with the Security Director of Tobruk, Major General Musa Al-Badin.

The meeting focused on the latest security developments in the city, identifying needs and shortcomings that would enhance security operations.

The Interior Minister emphasised the importance of improving security capabilities at the border crossing. He highlighted the need for “comprehensive planning and intensified efforts among all relevant parties, to combat the challenges posed by illegal immigration.”

This initiative reflects the Libyan government’s commitment to enhancing border security and managing immigration effectively, amidst ongoing regional challenges.

Days ago, Abu Zreibah discussed a security plan to combat illegal migration and smuggling, and to secure the Libyan coast.

This was during a meeting with the Head of the Anti-Illegal Immigration Agency, Major General Nouri Al-Saadi, the Director-General of Coastal Security, Major General Emhamed Abdelkarim Mohammed, the Director-General of Inspection and Follow-Up, Major General Sharif Ismail Quwider, and the heads of the Coastal Security branches in the eastern region.

The meeting focused on discussing a security plan set by the Minister of Interior for the year 2024, to combat irregular migration and smuggling, the expected security challenges in the future, identifying the obstacles that impede security efforts, and finding appropriate solutions for them, according to a statement.

The statement added that the meeting discussed the necessity of securing the Libyan coast, establishing strategic security points, and linking the Coastal Security branches with the main control room. In addition to discussing the role of Coastal Security in ports and coastal areas.

The attendees reviewed the cooperation mechanism between the Anti-Illegal Immigration Agency and the Coastal Security Administration, and the role of the Desert Patrols Administration in combating illegal activities. They emphasized the need to provide essential support to Coastal Security, to ensure the efficient execution of its tasks.
