Warfalla Council Backs Egypt’s Initiative on Libya, Denounces Turkish Interference

On Tuesday, the Social Council of Warfalla Tribes in the Eastern Region, announced their support for Egypt’s initiative for a political solution in Libya, dubbed the ‘Cairo Declaration’.

In a statement, the Council welcomed Egyptian President Abdel-Fatah El-Sisi’s statements on Libya, during which, he warned the militias of the Government of National Accord (GNA), of encroaching upon Sirte, and Al-Jufra cities, describing them as a red line for Egypt.

The Tribal Council re-affirmed that El-Sisi highlighted the deep relationship between the Egyptian and Libyan people.
According to the statement, the Council denounced the Turkish intervention in Libya. It claimed that GNA officials are backing Ankara, with the aim of keeping their positions, dividing the country, and looting its wealth.

Notably, El-Sisi stressed on Saturday that he called for a comprehensive settlement on Libya, noting that any direct Egyptian intervention has become legitimate in line with UNSC resolutions. Cairo stated that it will not allow any threat to the security of its western borders.

The Egyptian President ordered his army to prepare itself for any domestic, or international operation to protect their national security. This comes amid tensions over Turkey’s interference in Libya. He said the Egyptian army was “one of the strongest in the region. It is a rational army; an army that protects and does not threaten…this is our strategy, our beliefs, and our principles that will never change”.
