The Ministry of Transportation of the outgoing Government of National Unity (GNU) announced the resumption of air traffic at Mitiga International Airport. This occurred after technical teams successfully removed an air ambulance aircraft that veered off its course during landing on the airport’s runway earlier this Saturday.
The Director of the Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation Office at the Ministry of Transportation, Essam Rajab Nasrat, reported that the incident involving the Cessna 560 aircraft did not result in any human or material losses, except for the explosion of the aircraft’s left rear tire, which has been replaced.
According to Nasrat, the aircraft was en route from Mitiga Airport to Benina Airport in Benghazi, and then to Tunisia for an emergency medical mission. It then experienced a sudden technical malfunction in the air, forcing it to return to Mitiga Airport.
The swift response by the airport’s technical teams ensured the quick removal of the aircraft, this allowed for the prompt resumption of flights and minimising disruption to the airport’s operations. This incident highlights the importance of rapid response and effective emergency management protocols in maintaining safety and minimising impact on air travel.
Mitiga International Airport, serving as a vital hub for air travel in Libya, has promptly resumed its operations, ensuring the continuity of air services and the safety of its passengers.
