The Libyan Minister of Economy and Trade in the Government of National Unity (GNU), Mohamed Al-Hwaij, said that a meeting between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Egyptian President Abdel Fatah Al-Sisi would pave the way for the rapid reconstruction and development of Libya.

Minister Al-Hwaij on Saturday expressed satisfaction with the Erdoğan and Al-Sisi meeting in an interview with Egypt’s private channel of Al-Shams. He noted that Turkey and Egypt are Libya’s historical economic partners.

He stressed that the meeting, as well as the convergence of Turkish and Egyptian companies, would accelerate Libya’s reconstruction and development. “They all have experience and potential, we can benefit from all of them,” he said.

Al-Hwaij has emphasised Libya’s pivotal role as a gateway to Africa, leveraging its strategic location and resources. He underscored the necessity for establishing a long-term Libyan-Egyptian partnership that serves both nations’ interests, fostering economic integration and development.

The Turkish and Egyptian leaders met in Cairo, where relations between the two countries and Libya were discussed.

On Tuesday, Libyan Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity (GNU), Abdelhamid Dbaiba, met with Erdoğan in Dubai, on the sidelines of the World Government Summit held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The meeting, attended by Ministers and advisers from both nations, reviewed the outcomes of their previous encounter in Istanbul last October and explored avenues for economic cooperation. Discussions also covered the Libyan political landscape, emphasising support for international efforts to conduct elections and conclude transitional phases.

The leaders agreed to back initiatives aimed at alleviating the plight of Palestinians in Gaza and unifying the Islamic stance on this issue. They also deliberated on stabilizing conditions in neighbouring countries, underlining the significance of Libya-Turkey collaboration for regional peace.

Erdogan reaffirmed Turkey’s recognition of Libya’s GNU as the sole legitimate authority and expressed readiness to support dialogue leading to Libya’s stability and electoral progress without further transitions.
