Libyan security authorities apprehended a man for throwing a hand grenade into a schoolyard in response to his daughter’s punishment by a teacher.
The Benghazi Security Directorate reported the individual’s capture for hurling the grenade into the schoolyard of Al-Amal Al-Wa’ed (Promising Hope) and verbally threatening school personnel over his daughter’s punishment.
While the authorities confirmed the man’s lawful detention, they did not specify any resulting damage from the incident.
The detained parent, identified as A.S.M, born in 1977, admitted to the charges against him and was held at the Ras Obeida Police Station pending further inquiries.
Last month, the Benghazi Security Directorate announced the seizure of firearms and hand grenades during security stops conducted by police.
According to a statement, security stops and searches conducted by the Sidi Khalifa Police Center led to the discovery of firearms, along with abandoned ammunition and shells in an open area, all of which were handed over to relevant authorities.
Brigadier General Ahmed Al-Mismari, the Spokesman for the Libyan National Army (LNA), stressed the LNA’s commitment to maintaining security, thwarting external threats, and preventing the flow of weapons, ensuring Libya’s safety.
In a televised statement, Al-Mismari highlighted the success in forming anti-terrorism units in 2023 and implementing a strategic training plan for the armed forces.
He emphasized the impact of military developments in neighboring countries on Libya’s security, particularly in the south, where the Armed Forces effectively countered Chadian militia movements.
Specialized units combating terrorism were established, demonstrating flexibility in responding to various challenges. Al-Mismari underscored the LNA’s foundation in principles since 2014, with soldiers trained to fight under diverse circumstances, despite financial constraints and governmental negligence, prioritizing internal cohesion.
