On Friday, the Libyan Foreign Ministry of the Government of National Accord (GNA) announced the arrival of two flights at Maetiga International Airport. The planes have come from Alexandria Airport in Egypt, with 200 Libyan passengers on board.

According to the Ministry’s statement, the first flight had 98 passengers while the second carried 102 passengers.

In Cairo, the Libyan delegation announced the start of the process of returning stranded citizens from Egypt, with two flights a day.

This Friday has seen the start of repatriation flights from Alexandria’s Burj AlArab Airport to Mitiga Airport.

On Thursday, Libya’s delegate to the Arab League, Saleh Al-Shammakhy, said in press statements that the GNA’s Foreign Minister, Mohamed Siala, had commissioned him to supervise the transport of the stranded, adding that flights would start by Friday from the Burj AlArab airport in Alexandria to the Maetiga airport in Tripoli, with an average of two trips per day.

This comes after a private airline was hired to transport Libyan citizens stranded for months in Egypt.
