The Al-Bayda Security Directorate in Libya has announced the arrest of a gang involved in human trafficking, focusing on the abduction of Egyptian nationals for ransom. The operation was based on intelligence reports that led to the identification and subsequent arrest of four Egyptian perpetrators in Al-Bayda. They confessed to their involvement in human trafficking activities, including negotiating ransoms with the victims’ families and transporting them to Zuwara. The case has been forwarded to the public prosecutor’s office for further action.
In a related incident, the Marj Security Directorate reported the successful rescue of an Egyptian individual held for ransom in Marj city. The victim’s family was contacted by the kidnappers demanding a ransom of 150,000 Libyan dinars. Utilizing a location-tracking application sent by the captive, authorities managed to pinpoint his location and conduct a rescue operation.
The investigation identified the primary suspect, previously sentenced in absentia to 25 years for his role in a tragic incident involving the sinking of an irregular migration boat, leading to the loss of several Egyptian lives. The suspect, upon arrest, revealed the location of the captive, leading to the rescue of three additional Egyptian individuals held at the same location. The captive reported physical assault and threats from the kidnapper. The suspects have been detained and are facing legal proceedings.
