The United Nations Human Rights Council has honored Libyan Prime Minister-designate Osama Hamad and the General Command of the Armed Forces for their exemplary handling of the emergency response to recent flooding in the Green Mountain region. This acknowledgment was received by Dr. Abdalhadi Al-Hwaij, the Libyan Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, during the 55th session of the Council.

The Council’s commendation highlights the successful collaboration between Libya’s government and its military forces in addressing the catastrophic effects of the floods, showcasing a remarkable example of crisis management and humanitarian effort.

This international recognition reflects positively on Libya’s leadership and their dedication to safeguarding citizens’ welfare in times of crisis, contributing to efforts aimed at national stabilization and peace.

Amidst the backdrop of political divisions and conflict following the 2011 uprising, such achievements indicate a commitment to human rights and effective governance. Libya’s economy, largely dependent on oil, has been significantly affected by ongoing instability, with repercussions for both the national and global markets.

This UN accolade underscores the importance of unity and efficient governance in addressing and overcoming humanitarian challenges, marking a significant step towards improving the international community’s perception of Libya’s progress in governance and crisis management.
