Libyan Health Minister Saad Agoub called on all concerned authorities to launch large scale cleanup campaigns across Libya in an attempt to prevent the spread of COVID-19 (commonly known as “Coronavirus”).

According to an online statement released by the Ministry of Health (eastern government), Agoub called on institutions to organise campaigns to sterilise public areas, commercial buildings, schools, hospitals, gardens and parks.

Earlier on Thursday, an official from the Benghazi Medical Centre stated that the arrival of COVID-19 in Libya would be an ‘unprecedented disaster’.

On Sunday, March 8th, Tripoli’s Hospital media office denied claims circulating on local media that two patients were being treated for COVID-19.

The Libyan National Centre for Infectious Diseases Prevention and Control previously stated that no cases of Coronavirus have been detected in the country.

The Centre added that a national committee had been formed to confront the virus and monitor international developments. Thermal imaging technology has been activated in all Libyan ports to identify travelers with elevated body temperatures.
