The European Union mission has called on Libyan factions to embrace the initiative proposed by the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative, Abdoulaye Bathily, aimed at finding a political solution to Libya’s ongoing challenges. The EU stressed the importance of reforms for the country’s stability and economy in a statement.

Highlighting the approach of Ramadan, EU ambassadors urged Libyan leaders to utilize this period for national reconciliation and unity by responding positively to Bathily’s invitation for dialogue.

The ambassadors expressed concern over the security and economic issues affecting the Libyan population and called for prompt action on reforms to allow citizens to observe Ramadan in peace.

The EU envoys also conveyed their hopes for a peaceful Ramadan, inspiring efforts towards establishing a unified, sovereign, democratic, and prosperous Libya.

Bathily has reiterated the urgency of the House of Representatives to accelerate the electoral process during discussions with the Speaker, Ageela Saleh. The conversation underscored the need for a political compromise to facilitate elections, aiming for unity, stability, and enduring peace in Libya. The EU and the UN’s coordinated efforts reflect a strong international commitment to assisting Libya in navigating its political complexities towards a stable and democratic future.
