The Libyan National Army (LNA) has expressed its approval of the positive developments detailed in the Institute for Economics & Peace’s (IEP) 2024 Global Terrorism Index, which points to a substantial reduction in the impact of terrorism in Libya. According to the report, Libya has made considerable strides, moving away from being ranked as one of the top countries affected by terrorism to its current position at 39th, just after France. This improvement, moving up seven places since 2023, is recognized as the most significant advancement for any Middle Eastern or North African country in the index’s history since 2010.
The LNA credits this achievement to the dedicated efforts and sacrifices of its personnel and the comprehensive security operations that have successfully eliminated terrorist groups from key urban areas, including Benghazi and Derna, as well as large portions of the south. These actions have contributed to restoring peace and security nationwide.
In its statement, the LNA extended gratitude to its soldiers and officers for their commitment to Libya’s security and sovereignty. It also honored the wounded and paid tribute to those who lost their lives in the fight against terrorism, underscoring the importance of their sacrifice.
Furthermore, the LNA highlighted the critical role of national security agencies in sustaining stability and emphasized the need for ongoing vigilance and commitment to preserve the gains made. The army remains dedicated to eradicating terrorism across Libya, ensuring the safety and well-being of its citizens.
The IEP’s 2024 Global Terrorism Index marks a pivotal moment in Libya’s battle against terrorism, showing significant progress and a year without terrorist incidents or fatalities—a dramatic turnaround from the previous five years where Libya featured among the most affected nations in the Middle East in the index, which includes over 160 countries worldwide.
