On Wednesday, the Libyan Government of National Unity (GNU) announced that foreign nationals will be able to apply for Libyan visas electronically starting from Thursday.

This initiative, set to commence on the first of May, marks the launch of the e-visa system specifically designed for foreign workers entering Libya, following the completion of all necessary procedural and legal steps related to work visas.

This digital initiative, officially launching on May 1st, is aimed at streamlining the visa acquisition for foreign workers, as confirmed by the Libyan government’s online announcement.

The development of the e-visa system is a collaborative effort involving Libya’s Holding Company for Communications, the Passport and Nationality Affairs Authority, and the General Information Authority.

State Minister for Cabinet Affairs, Adel Jumaa, emphasized that this digital visa service is a pioneering project in Libya, expected to modernize the entry process for foreign labor.

Labor and Rehabilitation Minister Ali Al-Abed highlighted the system’s potential to eradicate bureaucratic delays and corruption, thereby enhancing the regulation of foreign labor inflow. This digital transformation in visa processing is part of Libya’s broader strategy to improve administrative efficiency and attract international talent, aligning with global immigration trends that favor electronic governance and streamlined procedures.

By launching the e-visa service, Libya aims to facilitate the integration of foreign workers into its economy, thereby fostering economic development and international cooperation. This move is also seen as a step towards rebuilding Libya’s image and infrastructure after years of conflict, offering a more accessible and transparent mechanism for global workforce mobility into the country.

The e-visa system represents a critical component of Libya’s strategic efforts to rebuild its international image and infrastructure after years of turmoil. By facilitating easier access for foreign investors, tourists, and skilled professionals, Libya aims to accelerate its recovery and development. This digital transformation in visa processing not only aligns Libya with global digitalization trends but also enhances the efficiency, security, and user experience of its immigration services.

This digital leap forward is expected to significantly contribute to Libya’s economic and cultural resurgence, inviting a new era of international collaboration and cultural exchange that supports the nation’s journey toward stability and prosperity.
