In a recent diplomatic encounter, Khalifa Haftar, the Libyan National Army (LNA) commander, hosted Abbas Kamel, Egypt’s General Intelligence Director, in Benghazi’s Al-Rajma headquarters. The meeting, held on Monday, aimed to address the Libyan political landscape’s complexities and underscored the role of the United Nations mission in fostering a balanced political resolution.

Haftar acknowledged Egypt’s efforts in facilitating a political compromise in Libya. Kamel, on his part, assured of Egypt’s commitment to backing initiatives that lead to the conduct of presidential and parliamentary elections simultaneously, paving the way for enduring stability in Libya.

This visit is part of a broader engagement between Egypt and Libya, highlighted by recent collaborations in healthcare. Fathiya Al-Oreibi, director of the Benghazi Medical Center, received an Egyptian medical team specializing in bone marrow transplantation, marking a significant step in medical cooperation between the two nations. This team, known for their pioneering work in Egypt, toured various healthcare facilities in Benghazi to evaluate the feasibility of conducting spinal cord transplants in Libya.

In addition, Mohamed El-Bahy, Chairman of the Arab Cooperation Committee at the Egyptian Industries Federation, unveiled plans for a delegation of 120 Egyptian businessmen to visit Libya in May. This initiative aims to enhance Egyptian exports and explore new markets within Africa and the Arab region. The visit, with a special focus on Misrata and Benghazi, seeks to strengthen the economic ties and historical relationship between Egypt and Libya. El-Bahy announced the organization of two separate trips to accommodate the high interest from Egyptian industries and the establishment of an export insurance agency to secure trade transactions, especially in regions facing political challenges.
