Report: Dbaiba “Unsuccessful” in Mediating Peace in Sudan

Africa Intelligence has detailed the unsuccessful mediation attempt by Libyan Prime Minister Abdel-Hamid Dbaiba, of the Government of National Unity, in the Sudanese civil conflict. Despite efforts to contribute to resolving the situation, Dbaiba’s initiatives have not produced the intended outcomes. In light of this, Washington and Riyadh are now seeking to facilitate the resumption of dialogue to terminate the civil war, reflecting the difficulties external entities face in addressing such intricate disputes and the persistent instability within Sudan.

Additionally, recent discussions in Benghazi between Libyan Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister, Dr. Abdulhadi Al-Hwaij, and Sudanese Consul General, Abdulrahman Mohamed, emphasized the importance of stability in Sudan for both nations’ security. The dialogue underscored mutual concerns and the shared goal of ceasing the hostilities affecting Sudan, thereby expressing a wider regional aspiration for peace and stability.

The Sudanese Consul General acknowledged the humanitarian assistance provided by the Libyan National Army and the Parliament-Designated Government to Sudanese refugees entering Libya due to the conflict. Libya’s response includes sheltering refugees, which has become increasingly critical as individuals flee the violence in Sudan.

In a related incident, a tragedy occurred involving six members of the Sudanese community en route to Kufra, Libya, resulting in fatalities and injuries. A recovery operation was subsequently launched by Libyan authorities to retrieve bodies found south of Kufra, demonstrating the ongoing humanitarian challenges stemming from the conflict.
