Baker International, led by CEO Douglas Baker, visited Tripoli, Libya, to explore investment opportunities. The company, known for its oilfield services, including drilling, production, and consulting, engaged in discussions with Prime Minister Abdel-Hamid Dbaiba of the Government of National Unity (GNU).

In a meeting, the Baker delegation expressed interest in operating within Libya, highlighting the country’s current stability and commitment to progress. Plans for further discussions with Libyan institutions on potential cooperation and investment areas were outlined.

A presentation given to Prime Minister Dbaiba by Baker International detailed proposed areas of collaboration with local institutions. Dbaiba reiterated support for the involvement of international firms in Libya and emphasized the importance of partnerships in sectors like renewable energy and gas production.

Libya’s reliance on oil has posed economic challenges amid fluctuating production and global oil prices, exacerbated by internal conflicts. Political uncertainties continue following the postponement of elections initially set for December 2021, due to disputes over electoral laws and candidate eligibility.

In efforts to address these challenges, US Special Envoy to Libya, Richard Norland, met with Libyan Minister of Economy and Trade, Mohamed al-Hwaij. Discussions focused on potential reforms and enhancing the private sector to attract foreign investment, reflecting ongoing international interest in Libya’s economic and political stabilization.
