On Thursday evening, eyewitness reports unveiled an alarming increase in movements and mobilizations by key armed factions across the capital, indicating a significant escalation in tensions.

The mobilization includes forces from the RADA Special Deterrence Forces under Abdel Raouf Kara, the state-funded Stability Support Authority (SSA), and the 444th Combat Brigade. These movements emerge in reaction to recent confrontations in the city, spotlighting the fragility of Tripoli’s security environment.

The unfolding situation has led to the shutdown of key locales, including the Furnaj roundabout, triggering a heightened security alert across the city. Further, the closure of the route towards Bab Ben Ghashir underscores the intensity of the current unrest.

Amidst these developments, the 444th Combat Brigade has positioned itself around the Airport Road, a move accompanied by the echo of heavy weaponry across several districts in Tripoli.

This military display follows a tense episode where the Judicial Police apprehended two individuals linked to the Stability Support Agency, headed by Ghnewa al-Kikli.

In a concerning twist, al-Kikli’s forces retaliated by abducting two Judicial Police members, signaling a deepening conflict within the city’s already complex security dynamics.

Tripoli’s current turmoil is deeply rooted in the post-2011 era, following the overthrow of Muammar Gaddafi. The city has since been ensnared in a web of power struggles, with various armed factions vying for dominance.

This landscape is predominantly marked by the presence of the Deterrence Force, the Support and Stability forces, and the 444th Combat Brigade, each holding significant sway within Libya’s fragmented governance structure.

This recent escalation reflects the ongoing volatility that has beleaguered Libya, struggling to achieve unity and peace in the aftermath of a decade-long conflict.

These latest events underscore the challenges facing Libya on its path to stabilization and unity. Despite concerted efforts by the international community, including the United Nations, to broker peace and facilitate the formation of a unified government, the recurring violence highlights the precarious path toward rebuilding a nation marred by divisions and unrest.
