Libyan Political Parties Call for De-escalation in Tripoli

The Coordination of Political Parties and Blocs in Libya has urged immediate efforts to disarm and engage in peaceful dialogue. The coalition, comprising nine political parties and blocs, expressed deep concern over the volatile situation and rising tensions in Tripoli and its outskirts.

It highlighted the urgent need for de-escalation amid a backdrop of political deadlock, security instability, and deteriorating economic and living conditions.

The Coordination has raised alarms over the recent influx of armed military convoys into the capital, exacerbating the potential for violence between rival factions. It called on responsible entities to take decisive action to protect unarmed civilians, prohibit the resort to arms, and uphold the sanctity of Libyan lives.

Holding legislative and executive authorities accountable, the Coordination warned against any actions that compromise the safety and social peace of Libyan citizens, endangering their lives and property. It advocated for rational discourse and adherence to peaceful dialogue among conflicting parties to overcome the current state of unrest.

The ongoing political impasse and lack of consensus on a resolution, the Coordination warns, could lead to severe consequences, potentially unforeseeable in nature. It urgently called for the adoption of a Libya-driven solution that moves beyond externally crafted resolutions of the past, aiming to restore the nation’s wellbeing and open new horizons of hope and prosperity for the Libyan people.

Furthermore, the Coordination urged communication with the United Nations Security Council and the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, as well as countries involved in the Libyan crisis, to take responsibility in preventing any acts of violence or armed conflict in the capital. It stressed the importance of the withdrawal of foreign forces from Libyan territory and recognised that the current political climate and presence of armed groups foster an environment conducive to armed conflict, threatening the security and safety of citizens.

This call to action comes at a critical juncture for Libya, underlining the necessity for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing strife and the restoration of stability and prosperity to a nation long troubled by conflict.
