The Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan National Army (LNA) Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, has emphasised the necessity of completing maintenance work at Benghazi International Stadium according to a set timeline.
This statement came during his visit to the Benghazi Sports City, alongside the General Director of the Libyan Development and Reconstruction Fund. The visit was intended to inspect the progress of the ongoing maintenance efforts at the stadium.
According to the media office of the Benghazi Municipality, Haftar highlighted the importance of adhering to the scheduled timeline for maintenance work. This adherence is crucial to ensure that sports fans can return to support their teams and the national squads during international events.

This initiative reflects the broader efforts to improve infrastructure and public facilities in Libya as part of the country’s reconstruction efforts.
Earlier this month, Haftar reaffirmed the military command’s unwavering support for the Libyan people. He promised not to let down the residents of Derna and other areas affected by the floods in mobilising all efforts for reconstruction, security, stability, and development.
In a recorded speech during his visit to Derna on Friday, accompanied by Speaker of the House of Representatives Ageela Saleh, Haftar stated, “The General Command will not disappoint you in deploying all efforts to stand by Derna and our other areas… We are racing against time and betting on genuine and organised efforts by those in charge of reconstruction projects.” The visit to Derna was marked by the presence of military and social leaders.
Haftar emphasized the importance of completing tasks within a specific timeframe, highlighting Derna’s unique significance and place in the hearts and minds of all Libyans.
“Our national and moral duty towards its people, and we are doing our utmost to ensure Derna and its surroundings return to being prosperous, safe, stable, and strong with the will of its people,” said Haftar.
He added, “Today, Derna is healing its wounds and moving steadily towards a new future… We face a real challenge, met with great hope that must be realized. We are determined to succeed in the developmental works that will contribute to compensating and repairing the damage to those who lost their loved ones and families, making Derna shine in its finest form.”
Haftar affirmed, “We stand with you hand in hand and step by step until we overcome this difficult phase with all its details and circumstances, continuing to accomplish the required tasks, working day and night to achieve our goals and aspirations.”
Haftar extended his gratitude to all Libyans and to brotherly and friendly countries for their support from the moment the humanitarian disaster struck Derna.
“We thank all Libyans for their solidarity and unlimited support for their brethren in the affected cities, especially Derna. We express our gratitude and appreciation to the friendly and brotherly countries for their support and assistance from the first moments, as well as for providing technical support,” Haftar expressed.
Furthermore, Haftar extended his thanks and appreciation to both the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the Prime Minister for their efforts towards the reconstruction of Derna and the affected areas.
