Libya Parliament Speaker: Central Bank of Libya financing foreign mercenaries

The President of the Libyan House of Representatives (HoR), Ageela Saleh, has announced that the Libyan National Army (LNA) led by Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar is a regular force that operates in accordance with military standards adopted by governments across the world.

He added that it is factually incorrect to compare the LNA with the various localised forces fighting on behalf of the Government of National Accord (GNA).

During a meeting with representatives from the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue (HD) in Geneva, Saleh stressed that oil revenues are being used by the Central Bank of Libya (CBL) to finance foreign mercenaries, purchase weapons and fund non-state actors.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Saleh reminded the international community that the HoR is the only elected body representing the will of the Libyan people and that, as such, it was responsible for selecting representatives for political dialogue between the warring factions.

Saleh stressed that this process could not be imposed by the international community on the people of Libya.
