On Wednesday, Prime Minister of the Libyan Government-designate, Osama Hammad, embarked on an inspection tour of Kufra alongside the General Director of the Libyan Development and Reconstruction Fund, Eng. Belqasim Haftar.
The delegation included the Chairman of the Reconstruction and Stability Committee, Hatem Aribi, Deputy Minister of Local Governance, Abu Bakr al-Zawi, Member of the House of Representatives for Kufra, Saeed Imghib, and Kufra Municipality Mayor, Abdel Rahman Aqoub.
The government’s media office reported that during his tour, Hammad assessed the city’s condition, identifying bottlenecks and needs to initiate development and revitalization efforts.
The tour also included a visit to the memorial of the Hawari Battle in Kufra, a significant monument that has suffered neglect over the years despite its importance to all Libyans. In response, Hammad and the Director of the Development and Reconstruction Fund issued urgent instructions to prioritize the monument’s maintenance to preserve its integrity.
Additionally, Hammad inspected several main roads in the city—from east to west and north to south—that are slated for paving, maintenance, and expansion. These improvements are intended to facilitate the movement of citizens traveling to and from the city, enhancing accessibility and promoting urban development.
Days ago, Hammad visited Sirte University along with top officials of the country. The visit included meetings with the dean and university officials to discuss the institution’s needs and future steps.
During the meetings, various urgent issues were addressed, including the need for maintenance of buildings and educational facilities. Additionally, plans to restart projects that have been on hold at the university were discussed. In a key development, the General Director of the Libyan Development and Reconstruction Fund issued instructions to begin constructing modern lecture halls for the students.
During the tour, Hammad emphasised that the government is committed to serving the citizens through reconstruction projects across all Libyan cities and regions. He stressed that the visit reflects the government’s resolve and leadership support to ensure the maintenance of facilities and the development of infrastructure nationwide.
