Abdul Halim Al-Shaibani, the General Director of Tripoli University Hospital, met with a delegation from the Philippine House of Representatives this Tuesday. The meeting, which included discussions on recruiting medical support staff from the Philippines, was attended by the Philippine Ambassador to Libya, and Ziad Al-Sayd, the Libyan Ambassador to the Philippines.

During the meeting, Al-Shaibani welcomed the delegation and expressed gratitude for their interest in the conditions of the Filipino medical community working in Libya. He emphasised the hospital’s ongoing need for skilled medical support staff from the Philippines, whose professionalism has been well recognised over the years.

The meeting, held in Al-Shaibani’s office, also saw participation from various department heads at the hospital and the head of the cooperative contracts committee. All parties reiterated the importance of bolstering Tripoli University Hospital with additional skilled medical personnel as soon as possible to enhance the quality of healthcare services, in coordination with relevant entities.

In February, Libya’s Minister of Labour and Rehabilitation of the Government of National Unity (GNU) Ali Al-Abed Al-Rida held discussions with Levinson Alcantara, the Filipino Assistant Secretary for Pre-Employment Services of the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW). The focus of their conversation was on enhancing the recruitment of skilled Filipino workers to Libya.

Minister Al-Abed expressed appreciation for the contribution of Filipino workers to the Libyan labour market and highlighted the ministry’s initiatives to streamline labour transfer procedures through the “Wafed” digital platform. He reiterated the ministry’s dedication to upholding the Labour Relations Law, ensuring the protection of workers’ rights, and addressing any challenges encountered by the workforce in Libya.

Assistant Secretary Alcantara conveyed the Filipino community’s positive experiences working in Libya, praising the nation’s efforts in improving employment conditions and creating a conducive work environment. He also emphasized the Philippines’ commitment to training and qualifying workers for overseas employment, including language proficiency and familiarity with Libyan laws.

The meeting was attended by representatives from the DMW, the Charge d’Affaires of the Philippine Embassy in Libya, and Ali Al-Maqouri, the Libyan Undersecretary for Employment Affairs.
