On Wednesday, the General Commander of the Libyan National Army (LNA), Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, held a meeting with the Parliament-designated Prime Minister Osama Hammad, Director-General of the Libya Reconstruction and Development Fund, Belgassim Haftar, and other key officials, to review the ongoing plans and projects aimed at reconstructing the municipalities of Southern Libya.
The meeting, held at the LNA General Command’s headquarters in Benghazi, also included mayors from pivotal southern municipalities such as Jalu, Awjila, Tazirbu, Sebha, and Kufra.
These talks aimed to review and expedite the implementation of essential infrastructure projects within these regions. These projects, managed by the Libyan government in coordination with the Libya Reconstruction and Development Fund, are designed to address fundamental needs such as road paving, educational facilities, hospitals, electricity stations, and housing developments across the southern parts of the country.
During the meeting, the participants discussed strategies to overcome logistical and administrative hurdles to ensure the timely execution of these national projects. These initiatives are seen as crucial for the stabilization and economic recovery of Libya’s southern regions, which have historically been marginalized and affected by conflicts.
The mayors expressed their deep appreciation for Haftar’s direct involvement and continuous oversight of the development projects that significantly impact the lives of residents in southern Libya. They also acknowledged his efforts in promoting reconciliation among the local communities, which is vital for achieving lasting peace and unity in the area.
Further, the local leaders thanked Prime Minister Hammad and the Director-General of the Development Fund for their recent inspection tours in the southern cities. These visits are critical for assessing the ongoing projects and the general conditions on the ground, allowing for a more tailored approach to addressing the unique challenges faced by each municipality.
The commitment to developing Southern Libya reflects a broader strategic interest in ensuring regional stability and fostering economic growth. This meeting underscores the Libyan leadership’s resolve to advance governance and infrastructure development as key pillars for national recovery and reconciliation post-conflict.
The ongoing initiatives, supported by various levels of government and community leaders, aim not only to rebuild but also to transform the region into a more prosperous and stable part of Libya. This comprehensive approach seeks to leave a lasting impact on the southern communities, paving the way for a unified and thriving Libya.
