The Libyan committee tasked with addressing the situation of Sudanese refugees met with the Interior Minister of the parliament-designate government, Essam Abu Zariba.

Abu Zariba presented proposals for establishing a field hospital and a camp for refugees in the neutral zone on the Libyan-Sudanese border in the southeast of the country, according to the Ministry of Interior’s security media office.

The ministerial committee, formed by the decision of Prime Minister Osama Hammad, convened on Friday evening in the city of Kufra, chaired by Abu Zariba.

Also in attendance were the head of the Internal Security Agency, General Osama Aldersi, State Minister for Illegal Migration Affairs Fahti Altabawi, Kufra’s Foreign Affairs Office representative Bashir Liberish, and the General Director of Local Governance, Abu Bakr Amsaadef Badr, alongside the chairman of the Sudanese community’s executive committee in Kufra, Al-Amin Karam Eldin.

The statement noted that the meeting focused on the issue of displaced and migrating Sudanese arriving in Libya due to the war in their country. It discussed all matters related to the Sudanese displaced community in Kufra, including the measures taken to provide necessary assistance to them.

The meeting also addressed the necessary work procedures to complete the Sudanese displacement procedures.

Abu Zariba clarified that the purpose of the field hospital is “to create a health record for Sudanese refugees, ensuring the accuracy of their information under the supervision of the Ministry of Health and the Libyan Red Crescent.”

The Libyan officials reaffirmed the ministerial committee’s commitment to exert all necessary efforts to assist Sudanese refugees, ensuring their well-being and providing suitable living conditions for them in Kufra.

Earlier this week, the Libyan Parliament-designate government estimated that approximately 40,000 Sudanese have been displaced due to the war to the Libyan city of Kufra, adjacent to the borders of both countries.

This was stated in a speech by the Libyan Minister of Health, Othman Abdul-Jalil, on Monday, during his visit to Sudanese displaced persons in the city of Kufra in southern Libya.

Abdul Jalil stated, “We estimated the number of Sudanese who have fled to Kufra to be around 40,000 individuals.”

“It is difficult to know the exact number of these displaced people due to continued waves of migration from Sudan, and the actual number requires field census teams,” he added.

“We have assigned medical teams to conduct examinations and tests for the displaced to diagnose their condition and provide them with healthcare. We will offer treatment and medical supplies to all patients, especially those suffering from critical or infectious diseases,” he continued.
