Libyan Foreign Minister Abdulhadi Al-Hwaij convened a comprehensive meeting on Tuesday evening at the Ministry’s headquarters in Benghazi to discuss the latest preparations for the forthcoming Africa-Europe Conference on Migration.
The meeting included members of the national preparatory committee and was aimed at finalizing the logistical and operational aspects of the conference scheduled to take place in Benghazi at the end of May.
Mohamed Masoud, the media advisor to the Prime Minister of Libya, also participated in the discussions, emphasising the significance of the event in addressing migration issues between the continents.
The preparatory committees presented their progress in organizing the conference, highlighting the efforts made in coordination, invitation distribution, and overall readiness.
During the meeting, Minister Al-Hwaij stressed the importance of joint efforts and meticulous coordination to ensure the successful execution of the conference. He highlighted the critical nature of the conference not only for Libya but for all stakeholders involved in the migration dialogue between Africa and Europe.
Minister Al-Hwaij further underscored the necessity of overcoming any challenges that might impede the conference’s organisation, ensuring a collaborative approach to address migration issues effectively. The meeting reflects Libya’s proactive role in facilitating international discussions on migration, reinforcing its position as a key player in regional stability and cooperation.
Last month, patrols affiliated with the Libyan National Army (LNA) intercepted a group of irregular migrants attempting to enter the country through desert routes.
The media office of Brigade 444 reported the seizure of several fuel trucks involved in smuggling. The confiscated fuel was distributed to civilians travelling on the main road heading south.
The statement highlighted that fuel smuggling operations are carried out by “unscrupulous individuals aiming to deprive Libyans of their resources.”
It also condemned human trafficking networks that expose vulnerable migrants to danger and peril in the desert or the sea, without valuing human lives.
